Magoo – The Big Comeback Starts Here
Yay! I love this band.
After almost wearing out my vinyl copy of last years amazing “Realist Week” LP I
was pleased to hear a newish single from them. I say newish because it’s
actually two of their previous tracks re-recorded along with a Grandaddy cover.
With these new recordings they’ve gone with an acoustic sound which seems to fit
them perfectly. The title track is stunning; a Spanish-acoustic flavour
accompanied by great vocals and a strong tune that is played with perfection. “2
dearborn” which was originally on their last LP is gentle and sweet, and the
cover of Grandaddy’s “Wives of Farmers” is excellent. Definitely as good as the
original version, it’s balanced just right. The vocals are warm and are sung
beautifully, and the tune really comes through. Their sound is really hard to
categorise, they obviously have a lot of influences but they pull it off with
such ease and style that they make it all their own. Maybe their new acoustic
sound is a taster of what’s to come for the new album, which I believe, is being
worked on right now. Until then though, go out and get this great single from
one of the best British bands around.
