Single: AM60 - Just a Dream
Instant
impression: just what I got when the Eels first burst on to the scene. The title
track ‘Just a Dream’ is full to the brim of good feeling and dreamy summer-time
sing-along vocals. It also has the same bop up-and-down air as OPM. The guitar
work and drums are a steady constant of simple rhythm. But this is what makes
the song so effective. Simple but very powerful; thought provoking. The odd
scratch on the decks and ambient background noise is what sets this apart from
other bands in this genre. Great!
The second
song ‘Melodic Flow’ sounds exactly as the title proposes. It has a great melody
and just flows. From start to end it is an easy listening affair with jolly
lyrics and a polite acoustic guitar giving great accompaniment to the vocals.
The last
track ’Radio Song’ is a cross between the Eels and the very talented Beck.
Drawing heavy bass lines along with rhythmic piano, this is yet another
sing-along anthem.
The only
thing that disappointed me here was the length of the songs. They are too short!
I wanted to listen for longer!!
It's always
good to see when a band has a definite direction and AM60 certainly have that.
Three youthful, innocent sounding songs with great summer beats and melodies
that will put a smile on anyone’s face. Surely the only direction left to take
now for AM60 is upwards!
